RoboCup Junior is an international robotics education programme where students design, build, and programme robots to complete challenges.

RoboCup Junior is an international robotics education programme where students design, build, and programme robots to complete challenges across key categories including :

Rescue: Students build autonomous robots that navigate a disaster-style course, following lines, avoiding obstacles, and locating “victims.” The challenge focuses on problem-solving, engineering, and real-world robotics applications such as search and rescue.

ASB Polyfest

Kiwibox VEX IQ National Championship 2025

Date: Friday 5 December – Sunday 7 December
Venue: Fly Palmy Arena, 61 Pascal Street, Palmerston North

These National Championship events are the largest robotics competitions in NZ and can be considered as the “Olympics of Robotics”. The event is open to the public and free to attend as a spectator.

Genesia Girls Workshop Day

EVolocity Auckland Regional Finals 2025

Date: Sunday 19 October, 7am – 4pm
Venue: Club Circuit Track, Hampton Downs Motorsport Park

EVolocity is the EV programme inspiring young Kiwis into sustainable engineering while fast forwarding New Zealand’s clean tech future. At the start of the school year, high school and intermediate age teams are given electric motor kits, some guidelines to follow, a bunch of inspiration, and free creative rein.

Alongside their teachers and mentors, teams plan, engineer and manufacture electric karts or bikes – all with sustainability (and race day) in mind. This is the Auckland Regional Final event where vehicles take part in drag races, slalom, endurance and efficiency competitions.

Pā Hangarau is a marae-based 3-day STEMM Exploration wānanga. Tōnui Collab partner with Marae to create a wānanga learning experiment where taitamariki (5 – 13 years) are invited to explore a range of different technologies including virtual reality and supported to work collaboratively to design and build digital content that celebrates te ao Māori and responds to pūrākau Māori shared throughout the wānanga.

Māori are under-represented in tech and it is time for the tech workforce to become more diverse and inclusive. Pā Hangarau invites taitamariki and their whānau to learn about the opportunities and threats technology presents us with, and to learn about education and career pathways in tech.

These one-day, action-packed workshops are perfect for rangatahi who are keen to understand and explore the world of game development.

Learners will work on two beginner-friendly projects that will help them:

understand the basics of coding and game design
learn core programming concepts like variables, loops, and functions
explore key game development skills such as collision detection, scoring systems, and user interaction.

Recycle Device Programme

This programme is not just an initiative, it’s a movement, driven by our community, united by a common goal to make devices available to our whānau and community. We will take unwanted laptops and tablets and give them a new lease on life, diverting them from the doom of e-recycling or landfills through establishing an accessible circular economy in our community.

Rangatahi will be given the opportunity to become tech apprentices mastering the skills needed to refurbish devices. Our Rangatahi will get a peek into the tech world in the process and will help support the after-school club to continue to build and refurbish laptops for whānau and our wider community.

Atuatanga Virtual Reality Game

Atuatanga VR will take players into a post apocalypse world where, after the destruction of the world at the hands of man, the Atua have gone into hiding. The Turehu, a fairy being, helps the player to reconnect to the Atua, but there will be difficult trials to overcome in this mission to save humanity. Atuatanga VR is the first full length virtual reality game in Te Reo Māori (with subtitles) of its kind.

Talk to some of the creators of Atuatanga about their experience and skill sets in creating the game. Watch game play in action, feedback your experience of Atuatanga and what you’d like to see in part two.

KIWIBOTS VEX IQ Robotics NZ Nationals

The VEX IQ Challenge National Championship is an annual event, this year hosted at the Palmerston North Conference & Function Centre.

VEX Robotics Competitions are participated by over 20,000 teams in more than 50 countries worldwide. The junior division of these competitions, VEX IQ, has been running in NZ since 2014, with students from primary, intermediate and junior high school all participating.

It is the largest robotics competitions in NZ and can be considered as the “Olympics of Robotics”. The event is open to the public and free to attend as a spectator. We encourage the public to attend this event to support young Kiwi kids performing at a truly world-class level, as well as witness STEAM happening in a way that may inspire them to participate themselves.

ShadowTech Day

ShadowTech Day provides girls in years 9-11 with an incredible opportunity to experience what working in the tech sector is like, encouraging them onto education pathways that lead into tech sector roles.

Supported by TechStep, this programme helps inspire girls into tech careers by pairing secondary school students with local tech organisations and taking them through a “day in the life” experience. This includes sitting in on meetings, witnessing communication and interaction between peers, and seeing what a typical day is like in the tech industry.
